RA-23 gets under way

WRC-23 starts next week.

| Jonathan Watson

WRC-23 may not start until next Monday but there’s already important work going on in Dubai—the Radiocommunication Assembly 2023 (RA-23) started yesterday.

RAs take place every three or four years and are responsible for the structure, programme and approval of studies. They are generally known as the “housekeeping” of the ITU. They are in charge of assigning preparatory work to the study groups, suggesting topics for future WRCs and issuing Recommendations.

The start of RA-23 means the wait for WRC-23 to get going is nearly over. From next week, PolicyTracker journalists will at last be able to stop saying things like “in the run-up to WRC-23“, “WRC-23 preparations edge forward” and “progress has been incredibly slow in WRC-23 preparations“.

Key spectrum decisions will soon be made. We can then immediately start writing about WRC-27. Just kidding—we’re not getting too stressed about that just yet.

If you need a last-minute primer on all this, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Our WRC-23 dossier, updated very recently, is right here. It’s available to all Spectrum Research Service subscribers.

Why not have a look, even if you have already done so, to brush up on all those carefully worded agenda items?
