How did the international spectrum power struggle start?
In the second episode of our Spectrum Policy 101 podcast, we talk to Professor Marc Raboy, author of “Marconi: the man who networked the world,” and Professor Thomas Hazlett, former chief economist at US regulator the Federal Communications Commission.
In the 1890s Marconi developed the first practical radio wireless telegraph system, which he smartly patented. Marc Raboy explains how this caused the first international spectrum-related tensions. Thomas Hazlett discusses how wireless grew in the United States and how a market-driven approach eventually prevailed.
