Put simply, a regulatory sandbox enables innovators to trial new products, services and business models in a real-world environment without some of the usual rules applying.
They’re used in many sectors and are now becoming increasingly popular in the spectrum world.
According to the ITU’s 2022 Global Connectivity Report, nearly a quarter of countries (47) worldwide have created safe spaces for regulatory experimentation.
In addition, almost a third of countries (62) have identified emerging technologies as a policy priority. They have adopted a forward-looking spectrum strategy or regulations and plans with regard to the Internet of Things.
Our new research note on sandboxes examines how they are being used by countries as diverse as Colombia, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, the UK and many more. It is now available to Spectrum Research Service subscribers.
