The WRC-19 Briefing: satellite, scientific, aeronautical, maritime, and amateur services
This week we are releasing the final three of our WRC-19 Briefing notes. These notes are designed to explain the current state of play for WRC-19: the high profile international event that reviews the Radio Regulations.
We are publishing the WRC-19 Briefing notes shortly before the final round of meetings that will decide on regional approaches to the conference, to be held in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh starting this October.
The newly published notes relate to satellite, scientific, aeronautical, maritime, and amateur services, as well as other general issues such as preparing the agenda for the next conference.
Many of these agenda items could result in important changes to the Radio Regulations, the rulebook for the international use of spectrum. Some of them also contain thorny political issues that could impact consensus-building across the conference’s 30+ agenda items, including mmWave 5G.
These final three notes, as well as the previous ones, are available below:
- The first provides an overview, explaining the functions of the WRC-19; its preparatory process and the progress in reaching consensus on the agenda items;
- The second analyses each agenda item related to terrestrial services, apart from mmWave 5G;
- The third explains the current state of play for agenda item 1.13, mmWave 5G. We discuss the bands that are attracting the most interest, and explain the key areas where there is still a need for consensus building;
- The fourth focusses on agenda items related to satellite services, explained in CPM Report chapter 3;
- The fifth examines scientific, aeronautical, maritime, and amateur services-related agenda items, as set out in Chapter 4 and 5;
- The sixth and final note concerns general issues, including the agenda for future WRCs, as explained in Chapter 6.
