Our vendor profiles have been fully updated for 2019.

The analysis, based on extensive interviews, reveal a unified understanding of the bands that will be used for early 5G deployments and the best ways that regulators should make them available. We have also identified greater clarity among vendors with respect to the bands they plan to support for IMT identification at WRC-19.

The research notes, available here, discuss among other things:

  • the extensive support for the 26.5 – 29.5 GHz band for mmWave 5G services. The lower 1 GHz of this range will be considered at WRC-19;
  • the second-tier tuning range at 37 – 43.5 GHz;
  • the 66 – 76 GHz band. A portion of this band appears promising for Wi-Gig, but it is not clear how this might reflected in the Radio Regulations;
  • a broad preference for nationwide exclusive spectrum licences for mmWave 5G, over some more innovative approaches.
